At its core, this mouthpiece has 3 movable parts connected to each other. However, on the outside, the entire length of the mouthpiece is covered with our unique horse-friendly gel material, covering all joints while maintaining the required movement. This unique solution makes the mouthpiece anatomically fit to the horse’s mouth, at the same time helping prevent the tongue, palate, mucous membranes, and corners of the mouth from pinching and eliminating any nutcracker action. All these features make the Double Broken Mullen Mouth mouthpiece much more gentle to the horse’s mouth while offering the same action as a traditional double-jointed version. This type of mouthpiece sits nicely in the mouth, distributing pressure evenly around the tongue and transferring the action of the rider's hand directly to the corners of the mouth. It is an ideal solution for horses preferring synthetic gel bits and riders looking for more precise action than straight flexible mouthpieces.
• Horse-friendly gel mouthpieces• Extremely durable against destruction from chewing• Interchangeable cheek pieces system• Two thicknesses of mouthpieces – Slim and Comfort
Achieve complete harmony with your horse, maintaining light, stable and precise contact with its mouth.
Winderen Gel Bits System bits are made of durable synthetic gel that’s comfortable and readily accepted by horses, and at the same time is extremely resistant to being destroyed by chewing. The Gel Bits System is also an innovative approach for riders who use more than one bit in their daily training. Each of our gel mouthpieces can be combined with different types of cheek pieces in order to create the right bit for you. The whole process of changing cheek pieces is very simple and takes just a few moments.
Designed especially for:
• Horses that have problems with getting on the bit and yielding to the hand
• Sensitive horses that have difficulty accepting a metal mouthpiece
• Horses that destroy synthetic bits by chewing on them
• Horses allergic to metal bits
Horse-friendly bits
For over three years we have been running in-depth tests and observations which ultimately led us to develop our Gel Bits System bits. During this period, we tested our ideas on hundreds of horses and riders with varying levels of skill and experience. This extensive group, consisting of professional riders, amateurs and leisure riders, helped lead us to the right conclusions. As a result, we’ve created a gel that our test horses easily accepted and that is extremely durable against destruction from horses’ teeth. Many of our test riders observed that their horses were chewing the bit more willingly and relaxing faster during work without evading the bit. The horses were getting on the bit quickly and working with a good, stable contact, which made training sessions more effective and relaxed.
Two thicknesses of gel bits – Slim and Comfort
In response to numerous requests from riders and professional bit fitters looking for bits suitable for horses with unusual muzzle anatomy, we have designed a new variant of Winderen Gel Bits System mouthpieces - Slim with a thickness of 14mm (0.55"). This is an excellent alternative for horses who, due to their muzzle anatomy, feel more comfortable with thinner bits.
Tailored to horses with diverse mouth anatomy
The Slim Gel Bits are the go-to choice for horses with lower palates and narrower spaces between their upper and lower jaws. Another important factor to consider while choosing the right bit is the thickness of the horse's tongue, as it varies from one horse to another. For horses with a thicker tongue (as shown in the drawing on the right), a thinner bit may be more comfortable. Horses with a thinner, flatter tongue (as shown in the drawing on the left) often work better with a thicker bit.
For riders with various needs
A thinner bit is a great choice for horses that require highly precise aids from the rider’s hand. The pressure from a thinner bit may be perceived by the horse as more focused compared to the thicker version, which distributes the pressure over a larger surface area. At the same time, the gel material encasing the bit’s core provides a pleasant sensation in the horse’s mouth.
Durable against destruction from chewing
A big challenge in the design phase was to make a bit’s mouthpiece that’s both soft and comfortable for horses and strong at the same time. After many attempts, we finally managed to achieve it. The soft, gel structure is willingly chewed and accepted by horses and at the same time is extremely resistant to being destroyed by chewing.
We did a lot of tests with horses, which, to the despair of their owners, destroyed different synthetic mouthpieces very quickly. These same horses didn’t destroy the Winderen gel bit. We even let dogs play with them to ensure the strength of our gel. Winderen bits performed more than satisfactorily* ;)
*We assure you that no dogs were harmed during the tests – on the contrary, they had quite a good time ;)
System of interchangeable mouthpieces and cheek pieces
As we all know, choosing the right bit can be quite a challenge. A horse’s needs can change over time, so when designing the Winderen Gel Bits System we wanted to make the process of selecting the right bit for the needs and temperament of your horse as easy as possible.
This is why we have created a system of interchangeable cheek pieces and mouthpieces. This innovative solution lets you connect any of our mouthpieces with our entire range of cheek pieces, allowing a wide range of possibilities and modifications in the functionality of our horse bits. The other important thing is that mouthpieces and cheek pieces can be quickly and independently interchanged as often as you like.
